What Rechoboth Baptist Church Believes

small logo

So what do we believe?

1.The Holy Scriptures

We believe in the Holy Scriptures as the inerrant, infallible Word of God written by holy men of God as they were divinely inspired by God's Spirit. As preachers and teachers of Rechoboth Baptist Church , our purpose and responsibility is to teach the truths, doctrines, principles, and precepts of God’s pure and perfect Word while maintaining the integrity and preservation of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages .

2.The Godhead

We believe in the one and only living and true God. He is all powerful, all loving, and all wise. He is revealed to us as eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons yet without division of nature, essence, or being and each having a distinct ministry in God's relation to his creation and people.

3.The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man when He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. As a man, He was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin. He gave himself in death upon a cross to make provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and ascended into Heaven where at the right hand of God He serves as our advocate and intercessor. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.

4.The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, bestows spiritual gifts, and indwells, anoints, and seals all who become Children of God.

5.The Total Depravity of Man

We believe all men are by nature and choice sinful and lost. Man was the crowning work of God's creation made in His image. In the beginning, man was innocent of sin and was endowed by God with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Only the Grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God.

We believe salvation is an act of God's grace offered freely to those who by faith accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine, heartfelt sorrow for sin, and having a desire to turn from that sin realizing it is impossible without a Savior. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Savior.

7.The Ministry and Spiritual Gifts

We believe that God sovereignly bestows His gifts to all believers, and that the gifts of Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the Saints today. Speaking in tongues and the working of sign miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established. God does hear and answer the prayer of faith, in accordance with His own will, for the sick and afflicted.

8.The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers

We believe every person who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is kept by God's power and is thus secure in Christ forever.

9.Evangelism and Missions

We believe that God has given the duty and privilege to every believer and church to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. It is the duty of every Child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

10.The Church

We believe that a New Testament church is a local body of saved, baptized believers that meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, and to carry out the great commission. Its Scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.

11.The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

We believe that after the rapture of the church, there will be a seven year tribulation period. After that, according to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth.

12.The Eternal State of Man

We believe in the everlasting conscious blessedness of the Saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.

13.The Ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It symbolizes our death to sin and resurrection to a new life. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers, through partaking of the bread and grape juice, memorialize the death of Jesus Christ and anticipate His second coming.

We believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour periods. We reject evolution as an unscriptural theory of origin

15.Human Sexuality

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity should be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex.

We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the mental well-being of the mother are acceptable.

17.Authority of the Doctrinal Statement

The doctrinal statement does not exhaust the extent of our faith. The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe. We do believe, however, that the foregoing doctrinal statement accurately represents the teaching of the Bible, and therefore, is binding upon all members.
